Bluetit Diary    Jun 2003 (19)

Saturday 7th June, 2003

The day started early as Elizabeth woke at half past five believing that she had not set the recorder to start correctly, so she came down to check.  All was well but since she was up, why not put out some mealworm?  That is why the first feed of the day is at 5.57am.

First mealworm of the day!

Flying practice.

The parents seem to be feeding the remaining three chicks quite frequently - particularly if they are given some mealworms to feed them with.  Food does not seem overabundant this year and many sites are reporting bluetit nesting failures, so we are pleased that we decided to provide plenty of good food for our bluetit chicks.

Plenty of fuss, but nothing came of it.

"I wonder what it's like out there?"

Again, the chick thought better of it and went back to the others in the nest cup.  An hour later he thinks again.  It's as though he wants to go but is fearful.  The woodpecker episodes can't help.

"It looks nice out there"

Scrap thinks he should go next!

"You're much too small"

"I'll show you!"
