Bluetit Diary    Feb 2004 (14)

Sunday 22nd February, 2004

Today we're going to show behaviour that seems common to all bluetit pairs.  This occurs when the male enters the empty box, shortly followed by the female.  Upon entry by the female, the male promptly departs, leaving the female by herself in the nest.  This sequence never seems to occur with the roles of the sexes reversed, that is the male never seems to enter the box when the female is already inside.

With luck, we'll also be able to show you some good images of bluetits in flight!

Here's Barney coming into land on the nest box entrance.

This time he doesn't enter and after a few seconds on the entrance hole, he flies away.
