Bluetit Diary    Nov 2003 (1)

Monday 3rd November, 2003

We have been watching Box1 since we first saw a visitor there on 18th October.  It returned every day except one for the next week but the visit on 24th October was the last one.  It is difficult to think of an explanation to this change of behaviour, but at this time of year there must be a high degree of chance in such visits.  Although some boxes are roosted in at this time of year, there was never any sign of this happening in our boxes.

This is the last image captured on the last recorded visit to Box1.

Although we have also been monitoring Box2 from the same date in October, we have had no visits there at all.

Friday 7th November, 2003

After a gap of about a fortnight, today we had another visitor.

She came in, had a look around, and decided that it was a place worth checking out again

Here she seems to be checking the view out from the floor of the nest - forgetting that by the time it matters, there will be a thick layer of nesting material to stand on.

She spent some time, as she did on her previous visits, investigating the area at the top of the nest box - the area right by the camera.

Here she is looking up just before her foray into the top.

Before she left, she also spent over a minute perched in the nest box exit hole, watching the world go by.
