Bluetit Diary    Feb 2005 (7)

Tuesday 22nd February, 2005

Things are still quite busy in Box2.  Both birds have been in several times today

This picture was taken after the female had followed the male into the nest box.  A couple of seconds later, the male still hasn't gone.

There he goes!

"Why doesn't he want to talk to me?"

Today it snowed.  Well wet sleety snow anyway!

We had been concerned that we were missing activity around Box1, so I fixed up the videoscope again to see what was happening from the outside.

The videoscope is our 'scope with a miniature video camera attached to the eyepiece.  This is similar technology to that used when digiscoping, but with a video camera and i-Catcher instead of the Coolpix generally used when digiscoping.

This setup is in our living room and is about 50 feet from the bird box - I am very impressed by the quality of the images produced.

Here we can see that a bluetit is interested in Box1 even if it doesn't go in it very often.

Actually, on this occasion, another bird was inside.  However, its partner didn't join it.

This image was captured a second after the one above.  What is happening we don't quite know.  It looks as though the bluetit has fallen off the entrance hole, but we find this difficult to believe!

More snow - proper big flakes this time.

The weather has become too cold and miserable for anything else to happen today.
