Bluetit Diary    Mar 2005 (19)

Saturday 26th March (part3)

Here are a few more interesting things that have happened today!

Kelly still can't get it into her head that she is supposed to be taking stuff into the nest box - not removing it!

Images like this show how thin the birds wings are - feathers are so incredibly light and yet also so incredibly strong!

We've seen lots of different birds taking an interest in this nest box, but never before have we seen a coal tit giving it the once over.

Having landed on the roof, our coal tit then went to the entrance for a closer look.  In fact I first noticed this bird on the inside camera as its beak is longer and sharper than a bluetit's.

Suddenly, the coal tit departed - just as we were thinking it might enter the box.

Ah! All is revealed.

Look who's this coming in fast - clearly our bluey is intent on defending its chosen nesting spot!

She landed on the entrance and immediately entered the box.  She stayed in for about a minute before leaving.

This is more or less our last image from the camera in our sitting room.  As he did last night, the male entered the box at about 6.30pm.  We immediately turned off the light but noticed on the external camera a short while later that he left.  However, a few minutes later he came back and entered the unlit box immediately.

Perhaps the female will have another clean-up job to do in the morning?!
