Bluetit Diary    Mar 2005 (6)

Sunday 13th March, 2005

There has been no more nest building since last Friday's efforts.  Box1 still has much less going on than does Box2, but a short sequence today caught my eye.

The male, which is inside this box at this moment, spends much of his time trying to tempt the female inside.  He is usually unsuccessful - she goes inside only once or twice a day.

The female comes to the nest box hole, blocking the exit, but normally just sits there refusing to enter.

This time the male has had enough.  He starts to force his way past the female.

She appears to not want to give way, but he insists and leaves the nest box.

It looks here as if she was knocked off her perch as he escaped - or was it just a particularly ungraceful departure?
