Babe's chicks are starting to get too big and energetic for her to sit on them properly
Here are 5 really good gapes from Babe's chicks. I suppose they should do well seeing as how a great tit brood is more normally around 10 chicks rather than the five that Babe has.
Perhaps looking after their chicks is getting Ferdinand and Babe down. Today we think we saw a bit of temperament creep in!
Ferdinand comes in with some food for the chicks. We don't know what it was but it must be pretty small as there is no sign of it in his beak.
Babe appears to ignore Ferdinand.
"That's not much after all this time!"
"Oh all right then - pass it over"
"Is that it? Where is it then?" Babe appears to make no move to feed the chicks, so either Ferdinand didn't give her anything or she thought it too small to bother with!
Ferdinand is getting fed up with this - and he can just see a chick's gape peeping out from under Babe's side.
Ferdinand decides he will feed the chick himself - although its still not clear what the food is!
Several other chicks start to appear - this is getting out of control.
"Come on - stop messing about and give me the food!"
Ferdinand complies and flies off while Babe feeds the chicks herself.
Then she settles down looking very smug. Has she won a mini battle with Ferdinand do you think?
