Bluetit Diary    Feb 2006 (2)

Tuesday 28th February, 2006

I find to my horror that I have only posted once before this month!  However, the fact is that the recent cold weather has put the bluetits off any thoughts of nest building.  Some days go by without a single visit, particularly to Box1.

Of course, the birds are still coming to our bird table - with all that good food there they would be mad not to! A short sequence here shows how much some of them value what is on offer.

The song thrush has been a regular visitor for some time now.  So far we have seen no sign of a partner, but we are keeping our fingers crossed as far as that is concerned.

Here the thrush had been well settled when a blackbird tried to take over.  You can see the thrush's reaction - don't you dare!

After a short stalemate, the blackbird decided that the thrush meant it and  flew off.

"And don't come back", the thrush seems to be saying!

Another bird table regular are the robins that we have recently seen together in the garden.  The robin is one of the first arrivals in the morning and one of the last birds to go to roost at night.

Although it has been up for some time, we haven't and here is robbie making his point about the empty bird table.  "Get a move on", he seems to be saying!
