Wednesday 8th March, 2006

Well, the weather has turned a lot milder, even if it is raining a bit.  But see what greeted us this morning!

Moss!  Is this just messing about or is it the start of something serious?

Whatever it is - that's quite a beakful!

Here she comes with some more moss - only to find the male already there.  Is he keeping an eye on what she is up to?

Still - as soon as she is in the nest, the male disappears.

More moss.  This looks serious!

The male's role at this time is somewhat puzzling.  He doesn't join in the nest building but clearly needs to be involved in order to stop him straying off with some other attractive female!

As a result, he seems to continue to lead the way into the potential nesting site but quickly removes himself when the female comes.

By the way, we have decided to call the female Kate (after Moss).  We need a short snappy name for the male too, but haven't decided on one yet!

Here the time is 11.10.00 and the male is looking to see what is going on in the box.

No sign of Kate inside, so he stays on the hole and looks around for her.  Does he call to her? We wish we knew!

11.10.04 He cannot see her so continues to keep on looking all around him.

11.10.06  Still looking!.

11.10.10  Eventually he sees her ....

11.10.10  .... so he goes into the box ...

11.10.10  ... as you can see from the inside too!
