Bluetit Diary    Mar 2006 (6)

Thursday 9th March (part2)

When going through today's images, I came across a very odd sequence.

It started off normally enough with the sight of Kate leaving the nest box.

She seems to be making heavy weather of it - you can see her feet on the lip of the hole - she seems to be straining to get out.

What on earth is happening here?

Aah!  She is trying to get out of the box but stay on the entrance hole outside the box.  The straining shown above was to ensure that she kept in contact with the box rather than exiting like the cork out of a bottle of bubbly!

So she is twisting round so that she ends head up, clinging to the outside.

Almost managed it!

Oops!  After all that careful manoeuvring, she slips and has to resort to flight.

Perhaps it would have been better if she had left as normal and had flown back to the hole!  It's a good job she has wings!!
