How many more of Kate's eggs will hatch today?

Because Kate's nest is so covered with feathers, it is difficult to see how many eggs there are still left to hatch.  There are definitely 3 eggs here and perhaps 4!

But what's this?  It looks like a piece of shell to me.  Has another egg hatched or is it a piece of debris from a previous egg hatching?

Whatever it was, there are clearly at least 3 more eggs here.

It looks as though this hatching business could extend over a long period.  This is not surprising as the start of Kate's incubation was not as clear cut as that of other birds has been.

Saturday 13th May 2006

is now Saturday and Ben is bringing an early morning treat to the nest box..

He passes it to Kate ...

... who dutifully feeds it to the chicks.

Claire gets similar treatment from Sam.

She in turn feeds it to her chicks.

Claire with three healthy looking gapes!

Half an hour has passed and they are still looking just as hungry!

Claire does some spring cleaning at the bottom of the nest cup.

Help! Get me out of here!
