Bluetit Diary    May 2006 (5)

Sunday 7th May (part2)

Life goes on as normal - here Sam is bringing more food for the remaining chicks.

Three hopefully healthy chicks and one egg still to hatch!

Another visit from Sam.

I don't know whether this is Claire or Sam - but whoever it is I would have thought the chicks were a bit young for mealworms!

More eggshell!  The last chick must have hatched!!

Claire looks as though she is eating the eggshell.  That's a good way of recovering the calcium lost in growing the eggs!

Most of the eggshell has gone now.

Four chicks.

Good old Sam!

This looks as though Claire is removing a faecal sac - the first we have seen this year.

Four active chicks.

Another feeding visit from Sam.

Still four active chicks.

It looks as though Claire has decided that it is time to settle down for the night.

It's difficult to believe that in 12 days or so these pink blobs will have grown into full size great tits and flown away!
