She picks up a particularly coarse piece ...
Fay has been her foolish self again today. This morning she seems to have decided that the coarse hay she has been bringing into the nest box has no place there after all.
... and removes it.
So far so good!
Back inside a short while later, she tries again ...
... and looks as though she has made it again, but ...
... she seems to be taking the rest of the nesting material with her!
Here you can see what was happening. The piece of hay she had grabbed this time was wound up with the rest of the nesting material. It must have brought her up sharp when she thought she was out of the nest box.
The piece she has chosen to remove is clearly attached to a bundle of stuff at the bottom of the nest.
So, back she goes to sort things out!
"Now what's the best way of unravelling this lot?"
She has another go. Initially, I thought she had the same problem, but after a short struggle ...
... she got out of the box ...
... and away!
She kept this up for quite a while before losing interest and disappearing off the radar - or at least out of sight of our cameras!
