Bluetit Diary    Mar 2007 (6)

Tuesday 6th March (part2)

Over at Box1, the bluetits there have still not given up.

The male bluetit visits Box1.

He leans forward to take a closer look.  Is the box empty?

It looks like it.  He comes closer still - just to make sure!

After a brief move away from the box - perhaps to get the female - he's back again - and this time he is on the entrance hole.  Yes, it's definitely empty!

In he goes!

It's a bit different from the last time he was in.  Now there is a lot more moss.  Somebody has been busy!

Suddenly the female bluetit arrives.

She has a good look around ...

... and goes inside.

The male is crouching out of the way as usual.

He departs immediately the female arrives - again as usual!

The female is left alone in the box.

Soon the male comes back to see what she is up to.

He drops down onto the entrance hole for a better look.

She is having a fine time with the moss kindly brought in by another bird!  (Well done that great tit!)

Watching his partner nest making appears to give the male ideas - just look at the feathers on the top of his head!

She is clearly so much at home here that she does a nesting wriggle - as if it was all her own work!

The male still looks very  - masculine!

After another 15 seconds, he suddenly departs.

If the male sensed trouble, he clearly didn't give any warning signal.  The female continues to behave as though this was her nest box!

She takes a leisurely look out of the box ...

... and then, nearly a minute after the male left, she follows suite and leaves too.
