Bluetit Diary    May 2008 (15)

Monday 26th May (part2)

What's this?  Freda's last egg must have hatched!

Freda takes the shell out of the nest box as she did yesterday.

Four gapes begging for food!  I expect the missing beak will be the newly hatched chick which will probably still be recovering from the ordeal of hatching.

Ken with another grub for the chicks.

What a pity Freda built her nest cup where she did.  (It was in the same place as the one built by Abby earlier so it's obviously in the logical place from a bird's point of view!)

The spot is closer to the camera than I expected and so as well as being partially out of sight, it is also slightly out of focus.

Ah well - we'll know better next year!

Mum with four of her chicks.

Four gapes again.

This view of the chicks will look much better when they have grown a bit!

Another feed for four of the chicks.

Is this all five gapes?  Perhaps not.

We'll know whether the fifth chick has survived tomorrow.

Finally, a last shot of Sally's chicks as they start to settle down for the night.

Will this be their last night in the nest box?
