Bluetit Diary    Apr 2009 (12)

Tuesday 21st April, 2009

Bella now has eleven eggs!  This matches our record  of the same number laid by Sally last year.  Ten of these fledged too!

Wednesday 22nd April, 2009

Is this an egg in Fay's nest?  This year the nests in Box1 and Box2 look so similar that I have sometimes confused them when writing this diary.  At least the number of eggs in each nest is substantially different!

Bertie feeds Bella again ...

... and again! (This feed was one and a half minutes after the earlier one.)

Bella has left the nest box and shows us her 12 (yes, twelve!) eggs.  This is a record clutch for us although our field guide says that bluetits can lay up to 16 eggs!

Another feed for Bella ...

... another ...

... and another ...

... and yet another!

As I commented yesterday, you can see that Bertie has removed the mealworm's head before giving it to Bella

Finally, Fay has given us a clear view of her first egg!

Will Bella lay another egg tomorrow?
