Bluetit Diary    Feb 2009 (8)

Sunday 22nd February, 2009

This was the state of the nest box when we switched on today.

Bella has been pretty active today.  Sometimes she appears to be bringing nesting material into the box ...

... and sometimes she seems to be taking it out again ...

... and again!

Bertie crouches down inside the nest box while he awaits Bella ...

... who eventually arrives ...

... so Bertie immediately departs.

Who'd be a male?  Bertie can sometimes have to wait for ages before Bella decides to follow him inside, but he always seems to think he must leave Bella immediately she does eventually arrive!

Bella seems to have an unusual line in nesting wriggles.

Now what on earth is happening here?  Bella appears to roll over onto her side while she performs this ritual.

And this?

We always said the bluetits are interesting birds!

Now, as Bella prepares to go, you can see that she appears to be removing all the remaining moss she can gather!

This is all that was left in the box at the end of the day.

Just so that you see that we are keeping an eye on Box1 too, here is a picture of a visitor to that box.

Another visit.

Nothing happened in Box3 today though.
