As if we haven't had enough of dead bodies recently, today an old one resurfaces.
The day started normally enough. Fay is now feeding her chicks full sized mealworms - when she can get hold of them.
Do you remember the very young chick that got squeezed out of the nest cup and lost its way? If not, you can read about it
Fay clearly doesn't like the flies and from time to time she attempts to catch them. We're not sure whether she caught this one!
By mid afternoon, the flies are becoming even more obvious. Here you may be able to see two of them crawling over the chick's dead body.
Fay enters the nest box soon after this and clearly notices the flies.
She manages to catch one, but there are plenty more where that one came from.
She disposes of it outside.
Half an hour later, she has a good look at the body.
She tries to pick it up ...
... but doesn't manage it.
A bit later she has another go.
This time she succeeds.
She flies up with it to the exit ...
... and removes it from the nest box.
Let's hope that's the last of dead chicks for this year!
This picture, taken at 8.20pm, is of the last visit Fay made to the chicks today.
The cameras switched off 30 minutes later and by this time the chicks appear to be fast asleep.
At eleven o'clock, we turned the power on briefly to confirm that Fay was roosting elsewhere.
We were right. She was not there.
