Bluetit Diary    Apr 2010 (4)

Tuesday 13th April (part2)

Here's a bluetit back again.  But is it the male or the female this time?

After messing about for about a minute, at last it goes inside.

Inside the box.

It's still not clear whether this is the male or the female.

A nice smart appearance.  A young bird, perhaps?

That might explain why it has not yet made a decision about where to nest.  Probably all the best places have gone by now - except this one of course!

Up to the hole for a look outside.

Or is it a male looking for its mate?

And here comes its mate!

Again, there is a period of about 20 seconds when it can't make up its mind before finally going into the box.

I think this is the first time this year we have had two birds inside Box3 at the same time!

The incoming bird flies straight onto the shelf ...

... upon which, the other bird immediately disappears.

That settles it.  The first bird inside the box must have been the male and the newcomer is the female.

The male flies off so quickly that it is barely caught by the outside camera!

Just to prove I'm right, the female does a nesting wriggle!

Go it girl!

Is that it then?

She's on her way!
