Bluetit Diary    Jan 2010 (9)

Thursday 28th January, 2010

The weather has been somewhat better today - dry and sometimes even sunny!  Perhaps as a result, all three of our boxes have been visited and sometimes even entered!

An early visitor to Box1.

He didn't go inside though - in fact, no bird went into Box1 today.

Box3 also has a visitor.

However, this visitor is going inside.

A very smart looking great tit - with a tail too this time!

It looks as though he is stretching up to look out of the entrance hole - or is he merely a bit apprehensive?

A few seconds later and he gets ready to leave.

While he rests on the nest box hole, you can take note of his excellent tail feathers!

Before he leaves the box, another great tit arrives.

It lands on the box and looks down through the hole.  In the meantime, the inside bird has dropped down on to the floor of the box.

He is still there 15 seconds later.  He looks unperturbed so maybe the other bird is this one's partner.

This is a shot taken from the outside at the same time.  I think these two birds must have paired up.

Look out!  It looks as though ...

... the bird inside is coming out!

Three quarters of an hour later a bluetit comes to have a look.

Hardly the most elegant of positions for looking inside Box3!

Two hours later there appear to be two bluetits on Box3 - and this pair don't look like friends either!

Well, I just hope some bird or other uses it this year!
