Bluetit Diary    Jan 2011 (7)

Wednesday 19th January 2011

It's not just Box3 where bluetits are quarrelling about the ownership of a box.  This bird approaching Box1 ...

... isn't exactly welcomed by the bird inside!

We haven't named the birds around Box1 yet, but when we do we are going to have to think up something revolutionary.  This bluetit has the habit of leaving the box but turning round as it emerges from inside the box and ending up  perching conventionally on the entrance hole.

We have seen birds do this manoeuvre before, but not quite this frequently!

Meanwhile, the saga of Box3 continues.  Harry arrives at the entrance ...

... and as he goes into the box, Will arrives and perches on the roof.

Once Harry has disappeared inside Will moves closer for a better look.

He then jumps down onto the entrance.  Hasn't he learned, or has peace been declared?

Suddenly Harry comes to the hole and Will jumps off in a panic!  His feet are probably still sore from last time when Harry grabbed him.

Harry left immediately after Will.
