Bluetit Diary    May 2011 (8)

Zoe's chicks are starting to become visible from the side camera ...

... though from many points of view, you still get a better view from the top.

Or do you?

It's still difficult to tell how many of Zoe's 10 eggs have hatched out into viable chicks.

However, here you can see at least 9 chicks (by counting their yellow beaks), so she's really done pretty well.

brings in a little green caterpillar to Box3 and 8 gapes rise in unison - presumably the ninth chick was the lucky recipient of the last one and is too full to clamour for more at the moment.

You can just see its yellow beak, which is closed, in the top left of the cluster of chicks in this picture.

It looks as though Joy and Dave in Box2 also have at least nine chicks.  Dave has just come to the box and they are all clamouring for food.  Again, 9 out of 10 eggs is pretty good.
