Bluetit Diary    Apr 2012 (11)

Friday 20th April 2012

It is a quarter past nine and James is taking advantage of the morning supply of mealworms to bring one to Jess.

And another!

Now a third!

No wonder we get through them quickly!

It is now 9.34am and Jess has briefly popped out of the nest box.  Pretty clearly she has stopped laying any more eggs.

Nine eggs is a pretty good clutch size though.  It is unusual for more than 10 to be laid in one clutch.

The largest clutch size we have had from one female is 12 eggs laid in Box2 in 2009, though we once had 14 eggs laid by two females in the one nest box!

Full time incubation is now well under way now.

Still, that gives James the chance to show what a good father he aims to be by regularly bring food for Jess.
