Bluetit Diary    Jan 2012 (4)

Friday 27th January, 2012

Since I last posted, bluetits have occasionally gone into each of our three boxes, but nothing dramatic like another fight has occurred.  Here for the first time we can see a pair of bluetits in Box1

This is a typical handover from the male to the female, the bird at the bottom of the picture being the male.  The male normally finds the nesting place and invites the female in to give it the once over.  If she is happy with it, than that is that!

Another Box1 handover an hour later.

Not a handover this time, but a nice shot of a bluetit approaching Box1.

Box2 also had several visits today.  Here is the first.

When a bluetit goes into a box at this stage of the season, once inside it spends some time just taking in the atmosphere of the place.  It doesn't move around much, but just looks around.

Later, when they feel more at home, bluetits seem to start pecking at anything that interests them, just to pass the time perhaps?

This is a bluetit approaching the entrance to Box3.  On this occasion, it didn't enter the box.

Another shot of Box3.
