Bluetit Diary    Mar 2014 (3)

Friday 7th March 2014 (cont)

Six minutes later she, or another bird, is clearly a little puzzled by the stuff in the nest box hole.

This bird is clearly interested in what's inside.

It manages to move the moss to enable it to get a better view.

Seeing the box empty, it flies off, displacing the moss while it does so.

Nine minutes later, another bluetit approaches and flies straight into the box.  This must be the one that is bringing the nesting material.

Inside.

A nesting wriggle.  This is her box all right.

And again this looks as though an unfriendly bird has come to the outside of the box

Well there is a bird on the entrance hole anyway ...

... and our female (we must get some names sorted out for our birds soon!) still doesn't like it very much either.

The newcomer goes into the box anyway.

They don't look at each other - there isn't a fight in prospect.

The female immediately leaves.

Off she goes.

The newcomer stops on the hole to look out ...

... but very soon it too leaves the nest box.

Well, I suppose they will sort themselves out eventually!
