Bluetit Diary    May 2014 (5)

Monday 5th May 2014

The signs are not good for Box1.  In spite of every effort by both Georgie and wills, the chicks seem to be dying off, one by one.

This is Wills with food just before 8 o'clock in the morning - and he can only rouse one chick into action.

Now it appears difficult to get a response from the remaining chick.

At least Pippa's chicks in Box2 still look to be in fine form.  Seven gapes clearly visible here.  Interestingly, their eyes do not seem to have opened yet.

Evidently all is not quite lost in Box1.  There still appears to be a chick begging for food at a quarter to two in the afternoon.

It's still at it nearly three hours later.

At 7:30 in the evening, one of Georgie's chicks still appears to be vigorous enough to be demanding food.

And Pippa's chicks are all looking fine.
