It always seems odd referring to this as the 2014 diary before 2013 has come to its end! Still I have not been able to think of a better way of doing it so this peculiarity will continue for another year.
I cleaned out Box2 a couple of days ago and after a spell above the boiler to dry out I mounted it again yesterday afternoon.
This morning we had our first visitor!
It didn't hang about and quickly went inside.
It looks like a male to me. Its head feathers are a bit tousled and look a bit scruffy. Its not the smooth head that a female normally has.
It's the male's role to find a nesting site so it isn't surprising that this is a male.
He's having a good look around.
After a few minutes inside the nest box, he flies off. It was less than 2 minutes since he first approached it.
