Wednesday 27th May, 2015 (cont)

So far three chicks have fledged in quick succession.  There is now a forty minute gap before the next one goes.

The remaining chicks are on strike.  After the excitement of the first three chicks leaving, they have had enough.

At 9.24am they start to wake up again so you can see that there are still 9 chicks in the nest box.

Suddenly, a fourth chick looks outside.  It cannot have liked what it saw as it soon rejoined the others.

So who's going next?  All the chicks are alert again, but none of them seems to want to make the first move.

Suddenly a chick jumps up to the exit again.

Here it is looking out of the box.

Is it going ... ?

... Yes!

(Chick 4)

There is the usual shocked silence in the nest box.  Perhaps they realise that it will be their turn soon?

Quite quickly, one of the remaining chicks jumps up to follow suite ...

... and it doesn't hang about, but just flies!

(Chick 5)

The remaining 7 chicks.

After having left the chicks to get on with things for some time, a parent appears with some grub.

Shortly after, a sixth chick heads for the exit hole ...

... and almost immediately, this chicks flies off too.

(Chick 6)

Another chick has gone.

Six gone and six to go!  Who's next?
