Today we have three eggs in Box2. Since the first egg was laid on April 20th, at least we can say that only one female is laying eggs in this box!
We still seem to have three females trying to stake a claim for the ownership of Box2.
This looks like Bess visiting the nest box. Note her wide head band.
This looks like Spikey. Narrow head band and marks on her right cheek feathers.
Three hours later we have Jane and one of the other two females. This means that all three females are laying claim to the box - but which of them is laying the eggs?
Spikey (and I think it is her, not Bess) leans forward as though she was expecting to be fed by Jane. Having seen many fights between bluetits, I am sure that this is not a mini fight!
Whether or not it is the result of this or not, at this point Jane decides to leave the box.
Towards the end of the day, this looks like Spikey has come in to roost.
