Bluetit Diary    Jun 2016 (2)

Thursday 2nd June, 2016

Another new day - and not much has changed in Box2.  We still have 6 chicks and one dead body.

At midday you can see that the dead body has been moved yet again - presumably in yet another abortive attempt to get rid of it.

Another feed!

More wing flapping.

"Why is that thing still there?"

She flies to the exit hole and reaches down and grabs the dead chick by its legs.  Whether this was by accident or design we cannot tell.

Still keeping hold of the chick's legs she attempts to go out of the box ...

... and after a great struggle, she at last manages it ...

... ending up out of the box herself, but with most of the chick still inside.  Fortunately she does not let go ...

... so that she finally pulls all of the chick outside and flies off with it - presumably dumping it some way from the nest box.

The remaining chicks are again singularly unsurprised by this feet and just sit back waiting for their next meal!

So its business as usual for the rest of the day!
