Bess kept going out for food and apparently quite happily passed it to Spikey to feed to the chicks.

Shortly after this, in an unguarded moment . . .
. . . Bess managed to get underneath Spikey . . .
. . . who promptly took umbrage and left the box.
She didn't stay away long and unlike Bess, she apparently came back without any food for the chick!
She certainly didn't pass anything to Bess, and shortly after she managed to regain her place on the eggs.
It is now 2½ hours later, and it looks as though another couple of chicks have hatched out. Interestingly, I still haven't seen any eggshell being removed or eaten.
At long last Hugh has cottoned on to the fact that there are chicks to feed!
Here he is passing food to Spikey.
Having passed it to Spikey, he immediately flies off, hopefully in the search for more. In the meantime, Spikey tries to persuade one of the (three?) chicks to eat it.
Here are the two Mums and (I think) four chicks.
It's after 7pm and still only 4 eggs have hatched. No doubt there will be several more by the morning!
