Bluetit Diary    Apr 2020 (13)

Monday 27th April, 2020

Just a couple of shots of Chloe's eggs.  This is how they are normally arranged.

Some way or other, she seems to have moved them into a circular formation.  I cannot remember seeing this before!

This is Box2 and I'm not quite sure what is going on here.  Is this bird Drake?  Or is it another bluetit entirely?

Daisy appears in the nest box hole ...

... and just flies off, almost knocking the other bird off its perch.
I think it must have been Drake, otherwise I don't think she would have been happy to leave her nestful of eggs unprotected.

It's now about 5pm and Daisy has decided it's time for a nap.

Drake, of course, doesn't know that and comes into the box with some food for her ...

... which she wakes up and takes.

She seems to have some trouble swallowing it.

Drake waits until it is swallowed, and then leaves ...

... and Daisy goes back to sleep!

Twenty minutes later Drake is back with more food.

You can just about see the green caterpillar in Daisy's beak.

Again, Drake waits until Daisy has swallowed it ...

... and then leaves.  Later when he will be bringing food for the chicks, he will wait to see if they will produce a packet of poo for him to remove, so I suppose waiting until the food has been swallowed is routine.

Again, directly she has swallowed the food, Daisy goes back to sleep!

This is the star of another time when Chloe is fed on the nest box hole.

As Chloe is preparing to leave the box, Chris lands on the roof.

He clearly has some food for her, so he flies down to the entrance hole ...

... where he lands and gives her the food item.

Then he flies off.

After a brief pause ...

 ... Chloe flies off too.

Away she goes!
