This is an interesting sequence.
Max comes to the nest box with a morsel of food in his beak.
Meg moves forward to take it but Max seems strangely reluctant.
After a fair amount of prevarication by Max, he eventually leaves without giving it to Meg.
"That wasn't very nice of him."
"What do I care!"
Ten seconds later Max is back with the food still in his beak. Amazingly, the pair go through the same procedure, not just a second time, but after that a third. And still Max doesn't pass the food to Meg! I suppose he ends up eating it himself.
Clearly, Max is taking some time learning to be a good partner.
