Bluetit Diary    Apr 2003 (23)

Sunday 20th April, 2003

It's rather warmer today but still very windy.  This has caused a feather in Fluffy's box to keep on moving, blown by the wind, and as a result lots of images of an empty nest for us to sort through!

Fantail has found a big feather and brought it to line her nest.

Fluffy looks so different from any other bluetit that it means that she can readily be identified outside the nest.  We often see her on one of the peanut feeders and she frequently comes to the shelf to take the mealworms when we put them out for the robins.

The second picture shows Fluffy being fed by Flash.  He's getting quite good at this now.

Fantail has another feather - and more string from the buddleia.

Both nests are looking more or less finished now.  We presume it's just a matter of waiting for some warmer weather.  You can see from many of the images that it is dull and overcast at the moment.

This is Fantail's nest.

The second is Fluffy's.  We think hers looks cosier.

Finally, both decided to roost in their boxes again tonight.  Perhaps the wet, cold and windy weather helped them to make up their minds.
