Bluetit Diary    Jun 2003 (6)

Monday 2nd June (part 2)

Unfortunately, wandering around the nest and doing vigorous wing flapping are two increasingly common activities for chicks in the last day or two before fledging.  At least flapping your wings isn't dangerous!

Let's hope Woodie doesn't come when a chick goes walkabout!

Scrap is out of the nest cup again.  Notice the ear tufts!  On the right another wing flap by one of the bigger chicks.

An egg emerges - it must be tough to stay intact under this lot!  On the right you can see that one of the younger chicks still has a lot of feather growing to do.

Scrap out of the nest watching his siblings.  Luckily he was back in again before we had another visit from Woodie the woodpecker.

Interestingly, Scrap is again the only one who thinks it means food - not that he might BE the food!

Will all the chicks manage to survive till fledging day?
