Bluetit Diary    May 2003 (13)

Tuesday 6th May, 2003

Elizabeth noticed Fluffy on the peanuts when she came downstairs, so quickly took this image of her nest.

Still only five eggs!

Yesterday, we pictured a bluetit on the mealworm feeder with a funny face - the black and white areas on its face appear to be mixed up, mainly on its left hand (wing?) side.  We now think that this may be Flash as he and Fluffy have been seen together on the feeder and appear quite comfortable in each others presence.  We show a close up of the bird below.

Funny face (aka Flash)

Oh, what a stretch!

The following picture shows Fluffy and Flash together on the feeder.  However, as you cannot see Flash's left hand side, it is not clear from the image that this is indeed the bird with the odd face markings.  Watching through the window, however, this was obvious.

Here are Fluffy and Flash together.

It will be interesting to see whether or not Fluffy and Flash  produce normal chicks - assuming that Flash gets round to incubating the eggs reliably.

Fluffy trying to incubate.  She looks quite lost in the deep nest cup.
