Switching to Fantail, the first image below shows Fred with a very large grub. Having eaten this, Fantail
goes out for a short constitutional and comes back with what appears like blue fluffy bedding material. What is it
and where did it come from, we wonder?
That's a a good girl - got to keep your strength up!
Fred is feeding Fantail regularly. Instead of rushing out after delivering his food parcel, he now often stays
in the nest for a short period. It seems as though she does not always take the food the first time, so he moves
away slightly before offering it again. This can sometimes happen three or four times.
Here Fred is passing the food - but the second picture shows them slightly apart. We observed this behaviour
several times during the afternoon.
Another funny incident occurred this afternoon. Fred had brought some food again, but this time when she took
it, Fantail rushed past Fred, more or less knocking him out of the way, and left the nest. Fred was left looking very puzzled.
"Here's another one for you"
"Lookout, I've got to go!"
"What did I do wrong that time?"
Another time, Fred came into the nest with another grub (little white grubs seem to be the flavour of the moment)
only to find the nest empty. It was fifteen seconds before he decided he had better go and look for Fantail
elsewhere. He left, still holding the grub in his beak.
"Where has she got to now then?"
