Bluetit Diary    May 2003 (25)

Monday 12th May, 2003 (part 2)

Just to remind you of Fluffy, here she is being fed by Flash.  Even at this time of day the sun causes too much contrast and alters the colour balance in the box.  Let's hope that Fluffy's chicks hatch out in the afternoon.  If indeed, that they hatch at all!

Flash also feeds Fluffy much less often than Fantail gets fed.  Still, we've been worried by neglectful males in past years and it's always turned out all right.

Finally, have a look at our latest 'bird' on the feeder.

It's difficult not to be charmed by such cheeky squirrels.  But they do monopolise the feeder, given a chance!

The last two pictures show two robins side by side on the feeder in the late evening.  We are pretty sure that they are from different nests as they are very uneasy in each others company and take the food in opposite directions.  Normally one will wait for the other to leave before coming to the feeder, but it was so late that we think they were more concerned to get one last feed in before nightfall.  Both pictures have been enhanced to show the birds.  They were taken at about a quarter to nine when it was pretty dark.

Five days to go before egg hatching!
