Bluetit Diary    May 2003 (4)

Friday 2nd May, 2003

The day started wet and windy, became brighter in the early afternoon but then rain returned in the early evening.  We think our birds must have seen the forecasts as their egg laying seems to have come to a full stop.  Fluffy could be seen first thing still to have only five eggs, and it later transpired that Fantail was also stuck on five.

Fluffy's nest.

And Fantail's.

Still, Fred still appreciated Fantail's efforts!

Because the birds are spending so long in their nests doing nothing but wriggling around, we are tending to take a large number of similar images.  To prevent this we have now switched on i-Catcher's facility which enables one to stop taking pictures due to movement within a predefined area defined by a mask.  Pictures still get taken when there is movement out of the nest cup, but movement within this area does not trigger a picture.

Fred still seems to have bursts of over-feeding Fantail.  Here she is being fed again, but immediately after she leaves the nest!

Fantail takes the food  -  but leaves the nest directly after!
