For the last couple of days we have wondered whether any more of Fantail's eggs hatched. We now have several images that make it pretty clear that she ended up with 6 chicks.
Both of these show six gapes. Whether or not they will survive to fledge is another matter, but it is pretty clear that six eggs hatched.
Fantail and Fred have this thing about feeding their chicks. Sometimes Fred refuses to pass his food to Fantail because he wants to feed the chicks himself.
Fantail asks nicely for the food.
She leans forward, but Fred leans back to compensate.
So Fantail backs off and lets Fred feed the chicks himself.
Six chicks and two proud parents.
Fred took his leave directly afterwards.
