Saturday 31st May (part 2)

The images recorded by i-Catcher of this 17 second period do not enable us to say definitely what happened.  Another time we will also use the VCR.  Between the above two images are nine images of chaos and confusion which lead me to believe that a chick was taken by the woodpecker.  However, because of the confusion it is not possible to say exactly what happened.  If you want to see the full set of 9 pictures, click here.  Each image is about twice the normal size.

Lets hope that Fantail's chicks have better luck!

On to some better scenes!  Immediately after the woodpecker episode, the remaining chicks seemed to realise that they had better go - and now!

The first chicks made several leaps up to the hole before finally leaving at 7:12:26

This left one chick home alone.  It didn't hang about and managed to leave at its first attempt at 7:11:35

All gone!

Of course, the woodpecker came back 7 minutes later for the second sitting, but this time, no joy.

All of this must make us revise our view of what happened to the first two chicks last Thursday.  We fear that the probability is that they, too, were taken by the woodpecker.
