Today Neptune fed Fantail in the nest for the first time! As we haven't seen Barney feeding Fluffy yet, either Neptune is telling Fantail to get on with it or he has become confused!
The sequence starts with Fantail worrying away at the spot on the wall of her nest box as usual. She seems to be spending an increasing amount of her time in this activity!
Neptune comes in with something in his beak.
This is the first time we have seen either of the males come into the box when the female is already there. Normally both males carefully check their box is empty before entering. If by chance they enter and find the female already present, they leave immediately.
This time it's different.
You can see Fantail with her beak open so that she can accept Neptune's offering.
Neptune feeds Fantail ....
.... and promptly departs!
So Fantail calmly goes back to pecking at her spot on the wall!
