Saturday 16th April (part2)

Back to the nuthatch!

This was taken soon after 6 o'clock this morning.  Babe thought about roosting last night but having stayed inside for about an hour, following her dash to defend the box from a starling, she finally left just before half past seven, well after we had turned out the lights.

We know she didn't roost as we had a quick look just in case at about eleven o'clock and found the box empty.

I wonder what time she was up and about then?

At the same time that Babe is checking that all is well from the inside, Ferdinand is on top of the nest box keeping an eye on her.

We now skip to half past two in the afternoon.

Who is this coming to pay a visit?  I certainly wouldn't have recognised this as a nuthatch if I hadn't seen the next shot.

Mr Nuthatch himself!

You can just imagine it.  "That hole looks bigger than last time I looked"

Oops - someone's coming!

"That site's taken", says Babe.

To prove it she promptly goes inside.

For a short while she stand on guard waiting to see if any bird is bold enough to try to come in.

Soon, she jumps up to keep watch by looking out of the entrance hole.

You've got to keep your eyes open and protect your property, if you are a bird!
