Bluetit Diary    May 2005 (17)

Friday 20th May, 2005

Both sets of chicks are getting more and more active.  One of Babe's suddenly found itself outside of the nest cup and wandered about wondering where it had got to before falling back in with the other chicks.  One or more of Kelly's chicks often indulge in their wing flapping antics.  You can see both of these here!

This is one of Babe's great tit chicks.  Its development is very much like the bluetit chicks, but a few days behind them.

You can see that even these chicks are now developing wing feathers.  However, they still have large areas of bare flesh underneath where the wings are normally folded.

Mum suddenly comes in with some grub and the chicks leap up as normal.  However, the chick that is partially out of the nest cup ends up completely outside of it and takes a little while to find its way back!

These are Kelly's chicks and you can see that they are quite a lot more developed.  Here is one of the chicks going through its wing flapping routine.

This chick stayed some time in the corner of the nest box before finally returning home.

Another good wing flapping session!

Another period of contemplation away from the others - well away from their physical presence perhaps but still well within sight and sound!

We have the video signal, including sound, plugged through to our TV set and the row they make when mum (or dad) comes in has to be heard to be believed!

Not many days to go now!
