Bluetit Diary    Apr 2006 (14)

Saturday 29th April, 2006

Both birds seem to be early risers, starting their day when daylight comes.

This is the first sighting of Kate today - at four minutes to six in the morning!

Three quarters of an hour later she gets breakfast in bed delivered by an ever faithful Ben!

Claire's eggs are all still in one piece.  We are expecting them to hatch round about Saturday 6th May.

When she has been out of the nest box, Claire always examines the eggs closely on her return.  It's almost as though she is checking to see whether any of them have hatched!

Back to Kate!

It's not just breakfast that Ben supplies, it's lunch too. This shot was taken shortly after noon.

Off Ben goes to look for some more food for Kate.

Ben brought in food at least 26 times today!

Ben feeds Kate again.

Another successful food delivery completed!

Ben is back with some more - here he is coming into land.

And here he passes the food to Kate - good practice for when the chicks have hatched.

What's happening here - it looks like one winged flying!

Here's another wingless flying shot!

At long last, Kate has dropped her guard and let us have a look at her eggs - and what a beautiful sight!  There are at least 9 eggs here which means that she must have been laying one every day since we saw the first egg!

A few minutes later and Kate is back on the eggs.  In spite of being such a terrible fidget, she seems to have settled down to incubating better than I expected

It's now quite late - just after 7 o'clock - and Ben appears to have discovered the mealworms.  Elizabeth has been putting them out in a couple of places so it's difficult to know where they have come from.

Wherever they have come from, Kate seems to be enjoying them!

And another a minute or so later!
