Bluetit Diary    Dec 2006 (6)

Wednesday 20th December, 2006

All our worries about whether changing the camera in Box1 would disturb the Great Tits have proved to be unnecessary.  They have been coming and going most of the day as usual, although the male seems to have given up roosting in the box overnight.

The system hadn't been switched on for long before we were rewarded with the sight of a great tit at the entrance of Box1.

It has a look around ...

... and this time decides not to go in the box.

Remember that this is the first time that this bird has seen the inside lights.  While the previous camera was in place we had not had the power on so the box had been lit only through the entrance hole.

Now it has these strange things in the ceiling to contend with!

Meanwhile, Box2 was getting some attention from a bluetit.

It didn't go into the box that time but 25 minutes later it is back again.

This time it did go in.  I hope this bird becomes a permanent occupant of the box as it has some markings on its back that would be very helpful in identifying it!  You can see the two white spots on its right wing quite clearly in both this and the previous picture.

It doesn't stay long and is soon off.
