Bluetit Diary    Feb 2007 (7)

Monday 19th February, 2007

This great tit cannot be the one that is roosting over night.  It approaches the box far too cautiously for that.

I think it was going to land on the next box hole, but changed its mind at the last minute and flew up the the roof again, this time landing on the left.

It is still there half a minute later.

At last it goes down to the nest box hole and a few seconds later, it goes inside.

When inside it looks most apprehensive.

Nearly a minute later little has changed.  It is clearly still not at ease.

Is this supposed to be a nesting wriggle?  Even looking through all the captured pictures does not make it clear.

Finally, over a minute later, the great tit leaves.

We mustn't forget our faithful bluetit.  He's still around and keeps an eye on things.  I wonder if this is the same bird as the one that is roosting in the BBB?

Finally for today, we have another visit from a nuthatch.

He leans forward to take a closer look.  If the hole is big enough for a great tit, then its probably big enough for a nuthatch.  Wouldn't that be nice!

But no - he doesn't go inside and decides to leave.
