Bluetit Diary    Jan 2007 (15)

Saturday 20th January, 2007

What's this?  We already have a bluetit trying to muscle in on Box1.  Now we have a great tit having a look at Box2!

It'll be a tight fit for you - the hole is only 28mm in diameter!

A couple of seconds (yes, seconds!) later a bluetit appears.  I wonder if a bluetit would ever put up a determined resistance to a great tit?

Back to the BBB (Bigg Bird Box).

A bluetit pays it another visit.

He appears very curious about the other part of the nest box that he cannot get at.  He spends a fair while examining what is behind the glass.

First on the right ...

... and then on the left.

He's hopping from one side to the other.  Perhaps he's trying to understand why he can't go forward (ie through the glass!).

I've used shots from the top here as the side view camera is aimed at the height the floor of the nest will reach when it is built - I hope!  While the nest is empty of nesting material, the camera misses a strip at the bottom of the picture.

See what I mean?

A puzzled bluetit!

The quality of the shots produced by this camera are excellent.  That's even though the focus has had to be adjusted carefully so that the images produced after dark using the infra-red light are reasonable too.

At the moment, there has never been a visitor after dark so there have not been any images to show.  I hope this will not be the case later!

The same shot from above.  This camera produces good images too - although it is not IR sensitive.
