Bluetit Diary    Jan 2007 (6)

Friday 5th January, 2007

Nothing much is happening yet in Box2 so we shall continue to concentrate on Box1.

This bluetit must be given ten out of ten for persistence.  Here he is nosing around again when he suddenly realises that danger threatens!

Better get out of here!

And this is why.  The great tit arrives to defend her property rights ..

...  and goes in straight away!

Nothing seems to put off the bluetit for long.  A couple of hours later and he's back again.

This time the box is defended.

The bluetit keeps his distance

After a short while he departs again.

This was the last entrance the great tit made today.  It's only 5 to 4 but she is already thinking about roosting.

She spends some time fidgeting and preening.  This was the last image recorded before the power was switched off.

I suddenly realised that she was in the corner with her head tucked under her wing so I switched off early to give a bit of peace and quiet.

We switched on again for a couple of seconds shortly before 11 o'clock.

Yes - we definitely have a rooster!!
