Bluetit Diary    Jan 2007 (5)

Thursday 4th January (part2)

Five minutes after the great tit drove him off, the bluetit is back ...

... and gets the same reaction.

"Be like that then!"

This was taken a couple of hours later.  Again, I'm not sure what led to this display.  Was he driving off an unwanted intruder, or is he reacting to a bird inside the box when he didn't expect one?

This shows the response from the bird inside - her beak is open but her wings are still folded,  It doesn't look like a hostile reaction to me.

I'm sure they will sort themselves out eventually!

The persistent bluetit seems to be trying to be a humming bird here!

From the amount of time the female was spending in the box, we thought she might roost given half a chance, so at about 10 to 4, I switched off the internal light (and therefore of course, the camera).

At 5 past 4 we were rewarded by seeing the great tit re-enter the box - and the external camera didn't pick it up leaving before dark!

Perhaps we have a rooster!!
